I still don't know how I managed to put 1600 frames into 30 MB !
Anyway, Achievement unlocked!

This is a small interactive Turntable of my OC Thayola, which probably will be used for a "game" made by me.

It's just a stupid idle, walk - and runcycle - nothing too special here. But there's more coming.

I'm by no means an animator - I already know that the walkcycle has a very ugly jump on her left hand. This is already corrected - but I didn't bother to re-render it.
I also do suck at Interface Design, most stuff I'm doing is just there...to work. :D

And no, these are not her swords - she just borrowed them to look cool. ;)

Actually I wanted to also put in an small Teaser, but got or in this case dA'd (or EA'd, because it might be an DLC for 30 bucks) due to the 30MB cap.

Created in two weeks using Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Arnold for Pre-Rendering, Flash CC for this one here.
Each Frame took ~40 Seconds to render.

This is also a small Tribute to Monty Oum, for motivating me to create this OC in 3D. You will be missed, but may never be forgotten.

Soundtrack by my fellow student friend Alexander Radacki  - used for our fifth semester project "Wings Of Nations"

Thayola Character Modeling Sheet : Thayola Modeling Sheet by Juh-Juh

Anyway, I hope you'll like it and leave Feedback!

PS : If anyone wants to critique - I'm not very interested in terms of Impact or Originality, but in Vision and Technique because...it's a turntable!

oh my goodness, so pretty! the animation cycles are so clean and fluid, her face is in porportion, her design is beautiful. The layout is easy to use and there were no glitches or bugs when i used it on my computer. the clothing matched normal physics and didn't look as though she was walking underwater. the Turntable is Unique as far as i have seen with other character design. the background is simple and doesn't distract the audience from the character herself. It is absolutely gorgeous and there are no clipping textures making the character all the more amazing.

very pretty animation.i like how her clothes matces her overall movements and it doesn't look like she just floats on air but actually standing on solid ground.her desing is simple yet beautifull, with the colours giving off a warm essence, making her look like a very identifiable person.the music is also very pretty and southing to the ear,it sounds like a lullaby without words.the overall result is beautifull in that it leaves you wanting to see more of that prettyness.i'm really eager to see what more you have in store for us,for i'm sure it will be just as beautifull as this one.

Oh my god, Monty...He inspired me to try to get into 3D art. I'm extremely sad now.
Are you really planning on going through with your game idea? :) I want to be able to make a 3D game as well one day.

Me as well, I still can't really get over it. : <

Unfortunately not, at least not in a way I would like. My problem is that I'm actually an Animation Artist (at least I'm focusing working on Animation Projects) and therefore I can't focus too much on personal stuff like this.
If I have more time and programming-knowledge, I would love to continue and develop it further...

But hey, then I wish you good luck! It's not really easy to start, but if you get the hang with it...then it's so satisfying to develop such a project.

Me neither, he is so inspirational.

Aw, well I hope you get to have more time to do the things you want to do :3
Unfortunately, I have very little programming and 3D modelling experience but I am trying to learn but it is quite the challenge ._.

Dang, now I remember that I wanted to doodle another tribute for him...but time is too short to handle it. X_____x

Well, maybe I can help you at some point because I actually studied to some degree (two semesters) about Game Art/Design/Programming. If you have any questions, just feel free to ask me. : )

I want to draw a tribute as well sometime soon.

*0* That would be amazing if you could help! I will probably take animation or something along game design. Thank you so much!! :D

Thank you so much! I haven't tried blender again in a while. I should really keep trying to figure it out. It is still a challenge and the youtube videos aren't much help. >o<

Well, to be absolutely honest with you, I'm not using blender and therefore I can't really help you if it comes to technical questions. >___<
But if you're not quite into blender yet, I would recommend you using Maya or 3ds Max anyway. It's not that blender is bad (quite the opposite : blender seems to be more user-friendly than other tools, since my friend is using it for modeling), but since each larger studio works with a certain pipeline connected to Maya/Max, you won't see much of blender once you entered the industry. D:

I'm talking out of experience, since I'm working as a VFX Technical Director right now and everyone's using Maya here.

Anyway, if you have more general questions regarding to workflows, techniques and such, just feel free to ask me about it. ;)

And I didn't use any animation-texture, this is completely modelled and animated with vertex-deformation. ;)

Well, it's actually a pretty simple idea. In addition to your basic face shape, you duplicate it and model the preferred emote to it. Afterwards you're just connecting them.
If you really do intend to look for the process, search for Blend Shapes. Otherwise when you're needing help, I'd be glad to help you out. :D

Oohhhhh thats what you meant? I have done blendshapes for facial expressions, like the eyebrow and mouth. Ah but thats very cool to know you did all the animations using blendshapes! And thank you!

Well, vertex-deformation applies to many kinds of systems, such as blendshapes, morph targets, converted voxel-based animation and so on...so I just used the general term for it. :D

It's actually pretty simple and very nice to use, if you're using set driven keys properly - that way you can blend between facial expressions only by moving controllers without using channel attributes. ;)

Nice work. I'd recommend trying her in a real game engine like Unreal or Unity, just to see how she really looks in real time.

I don't think rendering her like that counts :P

And you really shouldn't worry about the animation and GUI, that's usually someone else's work :) You don't plan on making the game yourself, do you? :P

Thank you, I appreciate your words. :D

And of course I already put her and another Character into Unity. Just look here : Unity-Testing (don't worry, grass and the tree are just for decoration and still look really crappy right now)
Since I'm writing my own Shaders for my Assets, I always have to keep a look at them. But I still can't decide between my own written Toon-Shader or the standard built-in shader with proper normal mapping...

To be honest, pre-rendering her looked way better than using unity since I could use PBR as well as SSS instead of relying myself to biased shaders that way...and I tried it (creating a turntable in unity) to come to that conclusion. ;)

And nooot directly. I'm planning to create somewhat like a visual gallery, where you can walk with the characters around the place and look at stuff...nothing too fancy, since I'm not a game-programmer and not intend to be one. ;)

And whatever game idea you have, no matter how simple, make sure it still fun to play :P That's the whole point after all ^^

Good luck :)

Well, since I'm just doing to learn game-programming, I'm not sure if I'll stick to this project for too long.
Probably I'll have to find a certain art-style first, in order to continue as right now it looks like from two different worlds. ;)

And yes, of course gameplay should be over everything else, unfortunately many games are doing it so wrong these days. :'D

You're trying to learn programming too?

Without debate. The amount of "crap" out there just isn't normal anymore. It's like their focusing on none gamers instead of the true gamers. It's all about graphics and stories and music etc...

It's getting really hard to find a true fun game. My list is getting smaller by the month -_-

The only negative I would say is that the animation started to run upon opening the page. Since I open 30-40 pages all at once (not expecting an auto-animation), my computer froze badly. Otherwise, when I found the page that was auto playing, closed it, then opened it by itself later, I got to see what you had done and it is very impressive.

Aaah, I certainly know what you mean! :D

To be honest, I was struggling between putting it before or after the preloader, but then decided to but it before since the loading times were quite long (~30 MB) and I actually didn't want people just to stare at the preloader only.

But thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it! ;)
